This is a very misleading visualization, since the data doesn’t show which states the candidates are spending most of their Advertising dollars, but which states have the marketing companies which provide the national ad buys or direct marketing.  That’s why Romney outspends Obama 110:1 in New Hampshire, where a major marketing company is based…  So we don’t learn about which states are most valued, just which get the most business out of electoral politics (still a story in itself) via ilovecharts: Campaign Expenditures By State
